August 2012 Board Meeting

Board members/Officers present:

The meeting was called to order at 18:18 CDT by President KC9NW. 


Secretary’s Report: K9DB

  • Minutes of the last meeting of 15 July 2012 had been distributed to board members via email. They were read aloud and were approved as read.


Treasurer’s Report: N9ATQ

  • N9ATQ was not present.  KC9NW said he was unaware of any change in balance from July. That would leave the balance at $203.07.


Rib Mountain Systems:

146.22/.82 Repeater:

  • No outstanding technical issues or changes.


449.3/444.3 Repeater:

  • No outstanding technical issues or changes.



  • No outstanding technical issues or changes. The new server that was installed last month appears to be working nominally.


New Controller:

  • No outstanding technical issues
  • K9PT reported that problems with the outdoor temperature sensor that was installed in early July to the new controller have been resolved.  
  • K9PT and KC9NW will meet at the repeater site on Friday morning, August 24th.


Brighton Repeater:

  • No outstanding technical issues or changes.


Coloma Repeater

  • No outstanding technical issues or changes.
  • K9PT reported that he has repackaged the Coloma equipment into standard equipment racks, for ease of serviceability. He reported that the existing equipment rack is nearly full, but available building space is limited.



  • K9DB reported that the next edition of Telemetry to be distributed on September 1st has been compiled and a prototype edition emailed to the board for review. Several revision suggestions were made. One article will be postponed to a future edition.


RMRA Web Site:     

  • KC9LFG - No report.


Old Business:

BRARA Swapfest at Colby

  • A discussion was held on preparations for displays at the swapfest.
  • Repeater coverage maps for each of the systems will be desired. Requests for these have been made. Arrangements to have them printed poster size have been made.
  • A D-STAR demonstration is probable.
  • 145.41 repeater at Brighton will be used as a talk-in frequency.


Repeater Linking – Rib Mountain/Brighton/Coloma/Tomah/Irma

  • K9PT presented a revision of KC9NW’s hi-level schematic diagram, presented at the July meeting, of a proposed scheme to link four repeater sites to Rib Mountain.
  • Technical discussions as to the engineering of the linked systems were discussed.
  • Cost estimates were also discussed.


New Business:

Annual Meeting

  • By consensus, the date of the Annual General Membership Meeting was tentatively set for November 3rd 2012 at 13:00 CDT at the Marathon County Public Library. This time and place is dependent on availability. KC9NW will contact the library for reservation.


Board Member Round Table:

  • A demonstration and discussion was held on “Softrock” software defined radios. These are $100 range kits that input to a PC soundcard.
